Whenever homework is given, it should supplement, complement, or reinforce classroom teaching. The suggested maximum time for homework assignments is:

• Primary Grades (Grades 1, 2, 3) 20 to 30 minutes

•  Intermediate Grades (Grades 4, 5) 45 to 60 minutes 

• Middle School (Grades 6, 7, 8) 60 to 90 minutes

It is important to note these are suggested norms. These norms take into account responsibility of getting homework completed and utilizing time effectively.  It does not take into account different learning styles. Therefore, these estimates will vary based on the student.
