The Get Kids Ready (GKR) Program is a Wisconsin state-funded initiative designed to help four-year-old children build the skills and confidence they need for a successful transition to kindergarten. Operated by St. John's Child Development Center and supported by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF), the program provides a high-quality early learning experience at no cost to families.
Classes are held Monday through Thursday from August through May, with two session options:
Healthy snacks are provided during each session.
For families who need additional care, wrap-around childcare is available from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. before and after class.
At St. John's Child Development Center, children learn through a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum led by caring, experienced, and licensed teachers. Our safe, nurturing, and engaging classrooms encourage children to grow socially, emotionally, physically, and academically while developing the skills they need to thrive in kindergarten.
As a Christian early childhood program, we also introduce children to God's love through age-appropriate Bible stories, prayer, and faith-based lessons in a welcoming and supportive environment.
With small class sizes, individualized attention, and flexible childcare options, we are committed to supporting the unique needs of every child and family we serve.
Children are eligible for the Get Kids Ready Program if they are 4 years old on or before September 1 of the school year in which they enroll.
To apply, a parent or guardian must complete the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF) application and submit it to St. John's Child Development Center. Enrollment is confirmed once the application has been reviewed and accepted.
